Deckhand to Captain Training Program
Our Deckhand to Captain Training Program (DTC) is a 9-month program designed by fishermen for fishermen, to ensure trainees succeed in their journey to becoming Owner-Operators of their fishing vessels. Trainees will gain hands-on experience running a successful small-boat commercial fishing business, on and off the water. With guidance from industry experts and mentorship from experienced fishermen, participants will develop essential skills in business management, financing, permitting, regulations, marketing, and safety training. Graduates and mentors receive a stipend to support their businesses upon completion. A minimum of three years experience as a sternman or deckhand is required.
"The training program taught me more about fishing than just jumping on a boat and heading out, which I was used to" - 2024 Trainee
